Best hotels in Turks and Caicos: where to stay, from Grace Bay to Parrot Cay

The water at Grace Bay is so clear you can see your own shadow on the sandy bottom. Out at the reef the waves break, but inside it the sea is as still as a pool. Turks and Caicos has some of the world's finest beaches, and only a handful of hotels on each of them.

Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory south-east of the Bahamas, made up of around forty islands and cays. Almost all the hotels are on Providenciales, known as Provo, home to the international airport. Grace Bay on Provo's north coast is the main beach, with most of the hotels lined up along it. The rest are small islands with one or two hotels each.

We have chosen ten hotels, most on Provo and two on islands of their own, and we say who each one suits. All score highly with guests on Hotels.com. Our links go there, and the hotel is always chosen before the link.

Short answer: where to stay in Turks and Caicos

For most visitors Grace Bay is the right choice, with the beach, restaurants and shops in one place. For more peace or for kitesurfing, Long Bay is better, and for a honeymoon or a few days entirely undisturbed, look at Parrot Cay.

  • Best for romance: COMO Parrot Cay

  • Best for families: The Palms Turks and Caicos

  • Best for first-timers: Grace Bay Club

  • Best for design: Rock House

  • Best for seclusion: Sailrock South Caicos

How to choose the right hotel in Turks and Caicos

  • Grace Bay or the rest of Provo: Grace Bay has the most going on and the most restaurants. Long Bay and the north shore are quieter, but you will need a car or taxi for dinner.

  • Cost: the islands are among the most expensive in the Caribbean. Many hotels have suites with kitchens, which can save a lot on longer stays.

  • Hire car: a car is useful on Provo, and you drive on the left. Taxis are pricey, so budget for them.

  • The outer islands: Parrot Cay is reached by boat from Provo, South Caicos by a short flight. Both work best for a few quiet nights rather than day trips.

  • Snorkelling: the reef is close to shore. At Grace Bay and Smith's Reef you can snorkel straight from the beach.

Grace Bay: Provo's main beach

Grace Bay is nearly five kilometres of white sand and calm turquoise water inside the reef. Behind the beach are the hotels, restaurants and small shopping plazas.

Grace Bay Club: the beachfront classic

Grace Bay Club is one of the oldest luxury hotels on the beach, with a separate adults-only section and a separate family section. It has several pools, a well-known bar on the sand and suites with large balconies.

This is our first-timer pick, because it offers both calm and service in the middle of the best beach. It is not the newest hotel, but it is well kept. Its restaurants draw diners from all along the beach in the evening.

Seven Stars Resort & Spa: big suites in the centre of Grace Bay

Seven Stars sits in the middle of Grace Bay, with large suites, many with kitchens, and a palm-fringed pool leading down to the beach. There is a spa and tennis court, and guests praise the service.

It suits couples and families who want space and a kitchen on an expensive island. The style is classic rather than contemporary. The restaurants along the beach are within walking distance.

The Palms Turks and Caicos: a huge pool and room for children

The Palms has one of the largest pools on the island, with palms, bars and white colonial-style facades. The suites are spacious, and there is a large spa and children's activities.

This is our family pick, with space indoors and out. It is a large resort, and in high season the pool deck gets busy. Head down to the beach early in the morning, when it is almost empty.

Point Grace: small and personal

Point Grace is a small hotel on Grace Bay in British colonial style, with white facades, dark wood and large suites. It has a pool by the beach and a spa in the garden.

It suits couples who want something smaller and quieter than the big resorts while staying in the middle of the beach. There are few rooms, and it books up quickly in winter. The style is traditional, so if you prefer crisp modern design, Wymara is a better match.

Wymara Resort and Villas: modern at Lower Bight

Wymara sits at the western end of Grace Bay, where the beach is called Lower Bight, with modern architecture, white surfaces and lots of glass. There is a large pool by the beach and separate villas a little further east.

It suits travellers who want a contemporary hotel with good food and a younger crowd. Smith's Reef, one of the best snorkelling spots reachable from shore, is nearby. It is a slightly longer walk to the Grace Bay restaurants.

The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos: new and large

The Ritz-Carlton is one of the newest hotels on Grace Bay, with two towers, a beachfront pool, a spa and several restaurants. Rooms are large and modern, most with a balcony facing the sea.

It suits travellers who want familiar brand luxury with everything on site. It is one of the tallest buildings on the beach and feels more like a big hotel than a small resort. Take a kayak out at sunrise, before the breeze picks up.

From the air

Long Bay and the north shore: wind and cliffs

Long Bay on Provo's south-east side is shallow and breezy, one of the best kitesurfing spots in the Caribbean. The north shore west of Grace Bay has cliffs and small coves.

The Shore Club: kites and calm on Long Bay

The Shore Club stands alone on Long Bay, with several pools, a spa and a beach club. The water is shallow a long way out, and kitesurfers fill the sky when the wind is up.

It suits families and couples who want space and peace, and anyone keen to learn to kitesurf. Grace Bay is about ten minutes by car. The beach is less suited to swimming than Grace Bay on windy days.

The cliffs

Rock House: the cliffs and the long jetty

Rock House sits on the cliffs of the north shore, with Mediterranean-style buildings in pale stone and wood and a long jetty reaching into the clear water. The pool is long and narrow and runs along the clifftop.

This is our design pick, for couples who want something other than the classic beach resort. There is no long sandy beach, but you swim from the jetty and ladders in the rock. It is a drive to Grace Bay.

Parrot Cay and South Caicos: islands of their own

If you want to get right away, there are hotels on islands of their own. Parrot Cay lies north-east of Provo, and South Caicos is a quiet island with a small fishing village.

COMO Parrot Cay: a private island with a spa

COMO Parrot Cay has the whole island to itself, with a long white beach, pool villas and one of the best-known spas in the Caribbean. You arrive on the hotel's boat from Provo.

This is our romantic pick, for a honeymoon or a week without interruptions. It is expensive, and you eat every meal at the hotel. Yoga and the spa are a big part of a stay, so it suits those who come to rest.

Sailrock is on South Caicos, a short flight from Provo, with villas and suites on the hillside running down to the beach and the reef. The island has a small fishing village and some of the best dive sites in the country.

It suits travellers who want nature, diving and complete peace. There are few restaurants beyond the hotel, and flights to South Caicos are limited. In return, you often have the beach to yourself.
