Best hotels in Bermuda: ten places to stay by pink beaches and in Hamilton

The sand on Bermuda's south shore has a pink tint, the houses are painted in pastels with white roofs, and the water is clear and turquoise. Bermuda lies in the middle of the Atlantic, far from the Caribbean, and has a British feel, with pubs, cricket and afternoon tea. The hotels are few, but good.

Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic, around a thousand kilometres east of the US coast. The islands form a hook shape and are only around 35 kilometres from end to end. The capital, Hamilton, lies in the middle, the old town of St. George's in the east is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the former Royal Naval Dockyard sits at the far western tip.

We have picked ten hotels in three areas and say who each one suits. All have a guest rating of at least 8.8 out of 10 and more than 50 reviews on Expedia. Our links go there, and the hotel is always chosen before the link. Bermuda is an expensive destination, but the island is safe, clean and easy to get around, and the best hotels keep very high standards.

Quick answer: where should you stay in Bermuda?

If you want a beach, stay on the south shore, where the pink beaches are. If you want restaurants and some life, stay in or near Hamilton. If you want luxury and golf, stay in the east, by Castle Harbour and Tucker's Town.

How to choose the right hotel in Bermuda

  • No hire cars: visitors cannot rent a regular car in Bermuda. You travel by bus, ferry, taxi or small electric two-seaters, so location matters.

  • Beach or town: the finest beaches are on the south shore. Hamilton has the restaurants, shops and ferries, but no beach in town.

  • Season: the swimming season runs from May to October. Winter is mild, but too cool for most people to swim.

  • Hurricanes: hurricane season runs from June to November. Check the cancellation terms if you travel in autumn.

  • Price: Bermuda is expensive, restaurants included. Many hotels offer breakfast or half board, and it can pay off.
