Where to stay for the 2 August 2027 solar eclipse

On 2 August 2027 a total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain, North Africa and Egypt, with up to six minutes of darkness in the middle of the day. These are the places and hotels to book now.

On Monday 2 August 2027 the moon slides in front of the sun, and a narrow band from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean goes dark in the middle of the day. It is already being called the eclipse of the century, because totality lasts unusually long over land.

It lasts longest in Egypt, at around six minutes and twenty seconds near Luxor. But you do not need to go that far. Southern Spain is also in the path, with two to three minutes of totality in Cádiz and Marbella.

Hotels in the path will fill up long before, so it pays to book early. The hotel links are affiliate links. If you book through them, Picolo may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Where can you see the eclipse?

The path of totality crosses southern Spain, Gibraltar, northern Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, then Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Outside the path you will only see a partial eclipse.

  • Cádiz: around 2 minutes 56 seconds

  • Marbella: around 3 minutes 20 seconds

  • Gibraltar and Tangier: around 4 minutes 30 to 50 seconds

  • Luxor: around 6 minutes 20 seconds
