If you long for the feeling of being at one with nature in comfortable surroundings, Costa Rica is the place for you. Costa Rica is located in Central America, with Nicaragua and Panama on either side, between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The small country is one of the greenest countries in the world, literally, but also through its focus on sustainability. A quarter of the country is protected from development, the largest percentage in the world.

The beautiful, crystal clear waters, long, unspoilt beaches, volcanoes, wildlife, community and friendly locals make Costa Rica the perfect holiday destination for relaxation and fun activities. After all, here one lives by pura vida, a type of "don't worry, be happy" attitude towards life.

Here are our five best tips for a luxury stay in Costa Rica:

1. Tabacón – at the foot of a volcano

In the northern part of Costa Rica lies the tropical paradise of Tabacón thermal resort & spa. Costa Rican architect Jaime Mikowski, who is behind the resort, found the land on which Tabacón stands back in the 1980s. He secured part of the site and began planning. Today, more than 30 years later, one of the finest five-star resorts in Costa Rica is located there.

Pristine rainforest as far as the eye can see surrounds the resort's 105 rooms. Its proximity to the Arenal volcano allows guests to enjoy natural springs, thermal waterfalls and river pools in a prized spa. This five-star hotel has adults only areas for those looking for more tranquillity. The hotel also arranges a number of tours where you can experience the spectacular nature and wildlife up close.

Amor Arenal – Five-star luxury in airy surroundings

Like Tabacón, Amor Arenal is also located right at the foot of the Arenal volcano. The architecture here is truly unique with modern, bold lines, and is built in the style of the rainforest and its colours. The open design brings air and views all the way to your bathroom, where you can look at the Arenal volcano while enjoying a rainfall shower.

All the rooms, or "casitas" as they also call the bungalows, have a private bathroom heated by the natural water sources. Amor Arenal gives guests access to the unique river of thermal minerals, and a number of private, scenic areas that can be enjoyed all by themselves. Guests can take advantage of several excursions that the hotel arranges in nature or join a yoga session every morning.

The resort is adult-friendly, and guests must be at least 13 years of age.
