The United States is known for its good food, cultural diversity, and great variety. It's also known for hosting the hottest trends in the food world, which also means that both diets and allergies are easy to follow.
If you eat gluten-free – that is, foods that do not contain gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye – you can still revel in good restaurants in America's cities.

1. Senza Gluten

Located in New York's Greenwich Village, Senza Gluten aims to create a 100% gluten-free Italian experience. The menu includes classic dishes like gnocchi, lasagne, and Bolognese.
2. TAP NYC
This Brazilian café in New York serves fresh smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, bread, and mini paninis. Exciting and completely gluten-free. TAP NYC aims to make nutritious and authentic Brazilian food.
3. Friedman's Restaurant
With multiple locations in New York, Friedman's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The reason why the restaurant has gone gluten-free is because one of the owners was diagnosed with coeliac disease. After many hours in the kitchen, and lots of trial and error, the place itself believes that it now serves the best pancakes and waffles and the most delicious chicken – all gluten-free.
4. Risotteria Melotti NYC
As its name implies, you'll eat real Italian risotto and other classics in this lovely little place in New York. And yes, it is a completely gluten-free restaurant. The menu also includes wild boar ragu, salmon carpaccio, burrata and truffle sauces. Delicious!

This Washington DC bakery specializes in gluten-free baked goods. Here, you can get fresh cupcakes, croissants, brownies, cinnamon rolls, cakes - all types of sweets to accompany your coffee.
6. Capitol Cider, Seattle
The slogan of this place in Seattle is: "A paradise for cider lovers, and a safe haven for those who eat gluten-free". It serves fresh and locally sourced food, such as soups and salads, and heavier meals consisting of burgers, chicken wings or fish ́n' chips.
Capitol Cider also specialises in other allergies and needs for those who need to avoid eggs and nuts, for example.
7. Mariposa Baking Co., San Francisco
This dedicated gluten-free bakery in San Francisco offers a wide variety of breads, pastries, pizzas, pies and much more, all gluten-free. You can also order gluten-free cakes if you don't get enough after a visit.
8. What's End Cafe, Chicago
A fitting name for the last spot on our list of the best gluten-free restaurants, the What's End Cafe in Chicago, Illinois serves brunch and lunch and cake you can enjoy with your coffee. The place is especially famous for its pancakes and Belgian waffles.
