Want to vacation like the billionaires in the Roy family? It's entirely doable! Here is an overview of the luxurious (and more budget-friendly) locations around the world featured on the show.

If you haven't gotten to know the powerful Roy family yet, then you should sit down in front of your TV and binge all seasons of the critically acclaimed and popular series Succession on HBO Max (it's even garnered an impressive score of 8.8 in IMDb).

The series has used real-life locations for several of the scenes to underpin the billionaire lifestyle of media mogul Logan Roy and his four children. You can also sample what it's like to live the life of the show's characters the next time you travel - and visit some very exclusive destinations.

But where was Succession filmed? We have found the properties, castles, skyscrapers, beaches and hotels used in Succession. Our trip takes you to New York, England, and Italy, among other places.

The Palm Court holds a timeless, elegant appeal. And Succession was filmed here.

What is Succession about?

Before we list the destinations, let us first introduce the Roy family. The main character is the powerful and cynical businessman Logan Roy (Brian Cox). He has four children: Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan (Sarah Snook), and Connor (Alan Ruck) as well as a whole host of friends and enemies in the form of sons-in-law, exes, business partners, and lawyers.

Roy heads one of the world's leading media and entertainment conglomerates. The series' title alludes to its plot, which mainly revolves around who will take over as CEO of the Wayster Royco media empire when Logan is scheduled to take a step back and retire.

Logan's four children vie for both the title and their ruthless father's absent affection and attention. The story is about childhood trauma, wealth, business, and the struggle to be seen and heard within the family. Succession has been named best TV series by a number of major media outlets, winning an Emmy for Best Drama Series, as well as taking home a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award.

Where is Succession filmed

New York

We must start with the heart of the disputed Roy family and business, the headquarters of Wayster Royco. In seasons one and two,  the World Trade Center was the main location, while season three was filmed in the Financial District and at 28 Liberty Street, known as the 248-foot-tall One Chase Manhattan Plaza building.

And where does Roy Logan himself live? The location used as the lobby of his lavish home is filmed in the American Irish Historical Society, a venerable building that can be found on 5th Avenue. The building houses a large collection of Irish American artefacts and rare books and is also used as a venue for events and lectures.

However, his luxury home itself is not real. The upper floors of the townhouse in the series are a set built at Silvercup Studios on Long Island City.

Another accessible stop for fans of the series is the East New York Freight Tunnel in Brooklyn. The tunnel starts just south of Liberty Avenue. Do you remember what happened there? This was of course the location of son-in-law Tom's (played by Matthew Macfadyen) wild bachelor party.

One of the recurring themes in the series is glamorous gatherings and parties, and these have often been shot at hotels, such as The Pierre, located at 2 East 61st Street on 5th Avenue.

The luxury hotel from 1930 is located opposite Central Park. Icons including Coco Chanel, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn have all been guests. The Pierre was used for several scenes in season three of the series, and you will no doubt recognize its large terrace.

Several scenes have also been shot at The Plaza, which is also located on 5th Avenue. The venerable Palm Court, Terrace Room, and Grand Ballroom were locations. The former is in reality an iconic location for Afternoon Tea in New York.

Oheka Castle is about a two-hour drive outside NYC. The Huntington Long Island hotel was used as a location in season one of Succession when the family went hunting. Rooms start at $ 325 a night, although the suites in which the Roy clan stayed are more expensive, of course. Alternatively, you can skip the stay and simply visit the property for an hour-long guided tour and enjoy a stroll around the garden.

Another location outside the city is The Whiteface Lodge in the Adirondack mountains, about five hours from New York. The resort was used as the location for the Argestes conference in season two. The place is perfect for everyone who wants a weekend of skiing or snowboarding, or spa and relaxation getaway.

Scotland

In season two of Succession, the Logan family celebrates 50 years of business. They pack their bags, board their private plane, and fly to Scotland, to visit their father's hometown (according to the script). The Roy family is actually staying at The Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder. The luxury resort is known for fine dining, excellent golf, and an amazing spa. In addition, beautiful nature provides excellent hiking around the 5-star hotel.

England

Tom and Shiv get married in the final episode of season one, and the wedding takes place in England. The party was held on his mother's estate in Herefordshire but was in reality set at Eastnor Castle.  For two episodes, we could see parties, intrigue, and plenty of emotions among the Roy family at this location that features a hotel, a deer park, and a lake.

As many as 350 people checked into Eastnor Castle for the filming of Succession, which the hotel handled well, accustomed as it is to hosting large film crews. You have probably seen this castle from the 1800s on the screen before in Notting Hill or Harry Potter. Outside of the movie world, the property is also a popular venue for couples to exchange vows in real life.

Croatia

When the Roy family goes on a sailing vacation, their giant yacht docks in Croatia. The Dubrovnik region and the Mediterranean Sea are a sought-after destination for sailors in real life too. In Succession, the characters sailed their yacht around the small islands in the area, such as Korčula, Mljet, and Šipan. Here, you will find blue sea, historic architecture, and lush nature.

You can find lovely family restaurants with delicious food by almost every bay in which you moor. A number of airlines have direct flights from the US to Croatia, and there are good connections to major cities such as Tel Aviv, Dubai, and Istanbul. If you live in Europe, the flight time is not too long — just two hours from big cities such as London and Amsterdam, for example.

Succession Italy location

No wonder Succession also chose to go to Tuscany in Italy while filming in Europe. The region is brimming with exciting nature, traditions, art, and cultural heritage, not to mention vineyards and gourmet restaurants. Tuscany is also home to the city of Siena, which is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Siena is also where you will find the incredible Villa Cetinale, where the Roys hosted one of their many parties in season three of the series.

The villa was designed in Roman Baroque style by Carlo Fontana and built by Cardinal Flavio Chigi for Pope Alexander VII in 1680. The property is known for its beautiful and large garden - and more recently for housing the unscrupulous Roy family.

When the Roy children's mother Lady Caroline Collingwood was getting married, the wedding was also held in Italy. The location used for the episode Chiantishire was the Val d'Orcia region, which is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The guests stayed at the villa  La Foce, a historic property dating back to the 1400s. In real life, the property is a venue used to host weddings and big family gatherings, and is known for its incredibly beautiful garden.

Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history and its influence on high culture.

Norway

In season four, the crew made the trip to Valldal, Norway. Some of the season was shot at Juvet Landscape Hotel, whose modern architecture features large glass windows. Guests truly feel they are staying in the middle of Norwegian nature - with a view of the forest, valley, and a dramatic river that flows past.

Juvet is located by a beautiful tourist road that runs between the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the famous winding road Trollstigen. Staying the night at this Norwegian hotel has been described as majestic and mysterious, which fits well with the style of Logan, Kendall, Roman, Shiv and Connor.
